Exp.3 Image Captures

EXTERNAL.

The exterior of the bridge and school. Front right main bridge walkway gaining access to the school area via the ramp to the bottom left corner with another access point being closer to Nida the starting point of the bridge.

Exterior Shot. Showing the three levels of the building with access here via the connecting bridge leading into the first level, containing the lecture theatre and meeting rooms.

Start of the bridge, from Nida continuing through to the UNSW Main Walkway.

Stairs leading up two Level 2 and 3 of the school.

Bottom Level, looking out at Anzac Parade to the side of the UNSW Main Walkway.

COURTYARD.

Roof Top Courtyard extended out from the bridge onto the roof of a preexisting building.

Study tables and seating. Trees to provide shade making the outdoor environment more comfortable to work in.

INTERNAL.

Lecture Theatre. On the First level, looking out toward the UNSW campus. Glass Windows allow for natural lighting decreasing the use of artificial lighting thus lowering energy usage and helping contribute to the sustainable concept to the design focus of this school.

Meeting rooms for Students, Level One.

Communal meeting area space for staff and students.

Lift access throughout the three-level building. Gallery in the background of the image along the wall used to display students work and allow for others to view and appreciate it. The gallery is located in the walkway path of level two allowing for more people to view the work on display and add to the design of the interior.

Studio Space, Level Three

Computer Lab, Level Three

The Library. An area to study, read and access resources to assist with Uni study. The glass Pannels allow for a connection between the building, UNSW and the surrounding environment.

Exp.3 "The Plan"

Based on Alvar Aalto: Villa Mairea house built in 1939.

- for my school aim to base it off of the way the house incorporates a main focal point being the bends and curves

Working on designs for my School through basing it off the plan of the Villa Mairea House:

Exp.3 Theory

Key Words:

sustainable, urban growth & minimise waste and enhance building quality and performance.

Design:

A design to create an urban environment that allows for the building to connect with its surrounding exterior, whilst using sustainable materials to enhance the connection with nature.

Exp.2 Lumion Final Images

Chosen Concept:

“His architecture was endlessly adaptable, leaving the archaeological traces of each generation.” Decimus Burton

“Aims to create a Unique journey for the people.”  - Mokena Makeka

“Wished to create a service to the public. Everybody has a right to experience good design.” Mokena Makeka

Selecting these quotes influenced the design of the UNSW light rail stop through emphasising the importance of making each structure unique and bold to enhances individual’s journeys. Through these quotes, the structural intention was to create a flow between each section of the tram stop. Focusing on sharp points, from the ramp of the main walkway to the roof and pillars, this allows for consistency amongst the design aiming for that unique, well-designed experience.

View down Anzac Parade.

A light texture has been applied to the frontage of the light rail stop, each dot symbolises individuality and being different, which coincides with Mokena Makeka's concept of creating a unique journey for people.
Solar panels have been placed on the roof in order to make it more sustainable and lower the cost of electricity thus creating a more economically friendly stop which can use the energy produced by the panels.

View from UNSW Main Walkway.

View going up from the main walkway onto the trams departing level.
.
Incorporating a ramp as the main access to the station makes its a sustainable design through allowing everyone the ability to reach the station.
The medium texture on the rails of the ramp is based on the ever-changing world we live in represented through the varying curves, which relates back to Burton's quote of "...leaving the archaeological traces of each generation.”

View from the upper level of the tram stop

The dark texture was applied to the inside of the roof, the sharp lines coincide with the main concept of the structure as well as being inspired by many of Mokena Makeka's works which often feature multiple sharp objects to add in as a design element.
The trees in the background were included in the landscape to provide shade and cleaner air around the area
